The National Curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:

• become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics
• reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry , conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument...using mathematical language
• can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication

NFJI's Time Themed Maths Week             

This week has been an exciting time adventure for our pupils as we delved into the fascinating world of time.  We've had a blast learning about key aspects like seconds, minutes, hours and days.  Through interactive games and engaging activities, we've mastered the art of reading analogue and digital clocks, understanding the concept of AM and PM, and even exploring time zones around the world.  From lively classroom discussions to hands-on experiments, our pupils have embraced the fun-filled journey of unravelling the mysteries of time.  We ended our week by having a dress up day where pupils and staff dressed up as anything related to time.  Stay tuned for more exciting learning experiences ahead.

In the Autumn term, the children took part in the England Rocks competition.  These are some of our amazing winners!

As part of our CPA (Concrete>Pictorial>Abstract) approach to the teaching and learning of maths we encourage the use of manipulatives from Early Years up to Year 6.  Take a look at some of the ways in which we have used manipulatives to support us with our understanding of mathematics during the Autumn term.

This term we have enjoyed lots of practical maths activities to reinforce our learning and to place our learning in a real life context.

The children in year 1 have been practicing making equal groups using practical objects and even themselves.

In year 5, the children practiced reading and plotting co-ordinates.
